Landlady of The Famous King and Queen retires after 18 years

Julie Adamson first started working at the The Famous King and Queen in Padgate as a member of the bar staff, but only a matter of months later she gained the position of pub licensee.

Recalling why she became landlady of the much-loved pub, the 59-year-old said: “I had no previous experience of being a landlady but I had worked in pubs before.

“Its always been one of my ambitions to run a pub so when the opportunity came, I applied for the position and got it.”

As well as how the pub has been a ‘home from home’ for her.

Addressing her feelings on retirement , with her last day as landlady having been on Monday, she added: “I feel emotional about leaving. I have met some amazing people there.

“I have been like a doctor, guidance councillor, advisor, everything all wrapped in one as part of the job. Helping people comes with the title. I will miss that side of the job.”

The landlady explained how she plans to semi-retire for the minute and enjoy a holiday or two, as well as being on a waiting list at the hospital to be seen for her arthritis.

But while the landlady may be calling time on her running of the pub, she will still remain a regular as she stated she will still be part of the pubs weekly dominoes team.

In one final note, she said: “I would like to wish the next owners good luck for the future and the running of the pub.”
