Lalkilla Indian takeaway in Orford given one-star food hygiene rating

Representatives from Warrington Borough Council environmental team recently paid a routine visit to Lalkilla on Orford Lane.

The result of the inspection has now been published on the Food Standards Agency website.

This revealed that the venue has been handed a new one-out-of-five food hygiene score.

As well as overall ratings, food premises are graded in three individual areas, namely hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety.

The first looks at the hygienic handling of food, including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.

The second covers the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene.

Management of food safety encompasses systems or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, as well as evidence that staff know about food safety.

It also covers whether the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in the future.

In terms of hygienic food handling, Lalkilla was told that ‘improvement is necessary’.

Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building received a ‘generally satisfactory’ score, but the management of food safety was said to require ‘major necessary improvement’.
