Honister Pass, a mountain pass on the B5289 road, linking Seatoller, in the valley of Borrowdale, to Gatesgarth at the southern end of Buttermere, is reportedly impassable due to ice.
It was initially reported at 4.05pm yesterday (January 7) and, according to an update at 9.56am today, it remains icy and treacherous.

Cumbria Constabulary’s traffic website, via Inrix, reports that the road is closed as a result.
The whole county and much of the UK is being battered by cold temperatures and it’s affecting many roads.
Temperatures are forecast to drop to minus 11 degrees in some part of Cumbria as the cold start of the year continues.
Carlisle will, according to the Met Office, face temperatures of around minus eight degrees on Wednesday evening with more rural areas of Lake District bracing for temperatures to drop to as low as minus 15 degrees in the coldest night of the year so far.
The chilly temperatures will continue towards the weekend before conditions become milder as next week begins.
Deputy chief forecaster for the Met Office, Chris Almond, said: “Thursday will see another cold night, with potentially the lowest temperatures of the Winter so far, -15°C or so is possible in locations with lying snow in Scotland or northern England.”
Cumberland Council’s gritters have been out in force across the region trying to ensure as many roads can remain open as possible.
Despite their efforts, the council have been unable to collect household waste and recycling from towns and villages in the former Allerdale region including Rosley, Threlkeld and Hesket Newmarket.

A spokesperson for Cumberland Council said: “The current conditions aren’t expected to ease until the weekend, so we won’t be able to return to make these collections this week.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
Areas that haven’t had their household waste collected can leave three additional, sealed bags out next week.
