Emergency crews were called to Shaf’s Chippy on Bridge Street shortly after 9pm on Thursday, January 9, following reports of a blaze at the commercial premises.
Locals reported “mainly smoke” billowing from the chip shop.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has since confirmed that the blaze was extinguished with no one injured as a result of the incident.
A spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 9.15pm on Thursday, January 9, to reports of a fire at a commercial premises at Bridge Street, Kilbirnie.
“Operations control mobilised three fire appliances and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting a single-storey property.
“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
Business director Mohammed Shafiq has since confirmed that the fire has forced Shaf’s to close for the time being.
He also thanked the emergency service and local community for the support offered throughout the ordeal.
He said: “We regret to inform you that Shaf’s Chippy will be closed due to unforeseen circumstances. A fire incident has impacted our shop, we are relieved that everyone is safe.
“Thank you to the fire service for your swift response. Your professionalism, dedication, and bravery in containing the situation and ensuring everyone’s safety was truly remarkable.
“Please know that your efforts mean the world to us, and we are forever grateful for your service.
“We deeply appreciate all the messages of love and support from the community during this challenging time.”
No further update was given on future steps for the business, with Mr Shafiq stating that time will now be taken to address the challenges ahead.
“Please allow us time now to navigate this difficult situation,” he added.
