Ken and Pauline Buckfield, of Manor Road, Brandon, celebrate 35 years of charity Christmas lights display

A couple have celebrated their 35th year of raising money for charity with their huge Christmas lights display.

Each year Ken and Pauline Buckfield, of Manor Road, Brandon, who have been together for 42 years, adorn their front garden with a plethora of lights and decorations.

They invite visitors and residents to donate to a charity on the back of it, and for the last two years the duo have supported Brandon Community First Responders.

Already, this year’s display has surpassed last year’s amount of £411 raised, which should help the group to buy a raizer chair to help get people who have had a fall up off the floor.

Ken said: “It’s something we’ve enjoyed doing for all these years, and 35 years is a bit of a milestone for us.

“Someone from the Responders came to the switch on and said they nearly had enough for the chair so hopefully this will help them.”

There is a cash collection box outside the display where people can donate, while there is also a QR code to scan which takes people to their JustGiving page.

The couple have sourced their display items from far and wide, including a DVD from America to display a talking Father Christmas in their window, which has been part of the spectacle for several years.

Ken said this latest item has been a favourite among visitors to the display this year.

Also on show is a postbox to the North Pole, which children can use to send their letters to Santa.

Every child is guaranteed a hand delivered reply from Father Christmas to their letter.
