Katy’s Cafe, in Evenwood, has been told that major improvement is necessary following an inspection on November 19 last year.
The Manor Street venue – which is located in between the Evenwood Workmen’s Club and the Premier Evenwood Convenience Store – provides freshly baked pies, quiches, cakes, and homemade hot dinners.
Food safety officers rated the site across three areas during the visit – hygienic food handling, the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building, and the management of food safety.
While the cleanliness was ranked ‘generally satisfactory’, the food handling, which looks at food preparation, cooking, reheating, cooling, and storage, was rated ‘improvement necessary’.
Meanwhile, the management of food safety, which looks at the systems or checks in place to ensure food sold is safe to eat and staff food safety knowledge, was handed a ‘major improvement necessary’ tag.
Katy’s Cafe is regularly praised online for its food offerings, with one person describing the venue as providing “good home cooked food at great prices”.
