The community should soon be able to have their say on which historic buildings in Ipswich could be offered extra safeguards.
Next Tuesday, members of Ipswich Borough Council’s executive committee are expected to approve a two-stage consultation to update the local list.
Local listing is not the same as the process done nationally, which are offered legal protections, although it does show the value people in the area place in them.

The designation would be taken into consideration during the planning process.
Cllr Carole Jones, said the authority would welcome suggestions from residents or groups over which buildings should be considered.
Ipswich’s local list was last updated in 2021.
Such buildings would be of historic or architectural significance or contribute to the character of the town, Cllr Jones said.
The consultation’s first stage would ask the community to identify ‘underdesignated’ buildings or structures that fit these criteria.
These will then be shortlisted by an internal panel before the public have their say on which assets make the list during the second phase.
Cllr Jones added: “The Local List helps the council protect local buildings that are key to the heritage of Ipswich and take them into account when we assess future developments and planning applications.”
