A school in Inverness has been praised for its commitment to children’s rights after securing a top award.
Dalneigh Primary School has been recognised with the prestigious Rights Respecting Schools Gold Award, which is issued by the UK Committee for UNICEF and celebrates schools that have successfully embedded children’s rights into their daily practice.
The gold level award is the highest accolade within the scheme, which encourages schools to create safe and inspiring learning environments where children are respected, their talents are nurtured, and they can thrive. Schools that receive it must demonstrate a strong commitment to children’s rights in areas such as wellbeing, participation, relationships, and self-esteem.
By using the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) as a guiding framework, schools which receive the award are shown to have “demonstrated a deep commitment to promoting and realising children’s rights”.
Highland Council’s education committee chairman, Councillor John Finlayson, said: “Dalneigh Primary School receiving this award is a testament to their hard work and dedication. I’d like to congratulate the pupils, staff and the wider community for their commitment to reach the highest Gold Award standard.
“By putting children’s rights at the heart of everything we do, we can create a positive and inclusive learning environment where every child feels valued and respected.”
