Inheritance tax: Tractors protest farm changes in Worcester

Farmers To Action rallied farmers from across the country to make their voice heard in a row over changes to inheritance tax announced in October.

A spokesperson for Farmers To Action said: “The Inheritance Tax being implemented by the Government will cause a food emergency and empty shelves will be the direct result of this policy.

“The inheritance tax is not only about farmers – it impacts a multitude of family-run small businesses across our country.

“If IHT is not reversed, we are looking at a tidal wave of farms and businesses disappearing across the UK.”

Farmer To Action is demanding the Government abolishes all forms of inheritance tax, ensures national food security and ensures fair food prices for both farmers and consumers.

Richard Wheeler, one of the people taking part in the protest, said: “”We are coming into Worcester from every direction.

“After this, we will be heading towards Malvern, Droitwich, Stourport, Kidderminster and Bromsgrove.”

Scores of drivers and pedestrians could be seen waving and beeping at the tractors as they travelled through Worcester.

And Worcestershire is far from the only place seeing action today.

Mr Wheeler said: “We have got protests in over 40 counties today, we really want people to understand that this is a national issue that is affecting everyone.”

Reforms to agricultural property relief proposed by the government would see farms maintain a 100 per cent relief on agricultural property up to £1 million, and only 50 per cent relief on any value over £1 million.

The Farmers To Action spokesperson added: “To the great British public, thankyou for your unwavering support.

“We are determined to continue feeding you, ensuring your food security and safeguarding the future of this country.”
