Hundreds of homes in Canterbury without water as pipes freeze over

Hundreds of homes are without water after sub-zero temperatures caused pipes to freeze over.

Scores of residents in part of Canterbury have been without supply today, while others are facing very low pressure.

The CT1 1WB is affected, including Querns Road, part of Military Road, Spring Lane, Howe Green and Royal Parade.

Cllr Connie Nolan (Lab), who represents the Barton ward, says she is “very concerned”.

“I know some people have no water and some people have very little pressure,” she said.

“I have spoken with South East Water about residents who may be vulnerable.

“Their advice is to call 0333 000 0365 and register as a vulnerable resident and its customer support team will supply bottled water.

South East Water has apologised for a lack of updates

“They don’t know when the water will be back to normal but they are hoping it will be restored today.”

In a statement, South East Water apologised for a lack of information about the issue, which was first reported in the early hours.

“We’re really sorry we have been unable to provide any updates to those with no water or low water pressure,” it said.

“Weather conditions are making our investigations difficult as some of our equipment has frozen, however please be assured we are continuing to work around this as a priority.”
