Fresh yellow weather warnings for snow and ice have been issued for much of the Highlands.

The Met Office says there is a likelihood of travel disruption and dangerous driving conditions from tonight until around 10am tomorrow.

More of the same is forecast for Friday from 4pm through to 10am on Saturday.

Flooding and landslides cause rail chaos for Highland travellers

A Met Office spokeswoman said: “Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.

“There will probably be some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths (and a risk of) some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.”

Further snow showers are expected, with a band of more persistent sleet and snow moving southwards later on Thursday afternoon and through the evening.

The spokeswoman added: “Three to 7 cm of snowfall is likely in places, while 10 cm or more is possible above 300 metres.

“Rain or sleet is likely at times along some coasts and at lower levels towards the west of the warning area, with untreated wet surfaces leading to a risk of ice formation on Thursday night.”
