Hetton-le-Hole man, 90, in hospital after being hit by bus

Emergency services rushed to the scene at the A182 junction with Colliery Lane shortly after 10.10am this morning (January 16). 

The 90-year-old was rushed to Newcastle Royal Victoria Infirmary Hospital for further treatment for his ‘serious injuries’. 

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 10:10 am today, we received a report via the ambulance service of a collision on the A182 in Hetton-le-Hole, close to the junction with Colliery Lane.

“It was reported that a man aged in his 90s had been involved in a collision with a bus.”

The driver of the bus remained at the scene and is assisting officers with their inquiries.

The collision led to a section of the A182 being closed in both directions for five hours as emergency services worked at the scene. The road has since reopened.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident.
