Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue Centre seeks support for hedgehogs

The Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue Centre, based in Beith, currently has around 70 of the animals in its care – and say it is receiving more every day.

The organisation say that these hedgehogs need support and care until they are strong enough to return to the wild.

That is where the charity is looking from support from the community – as it seeks to find suitable sites for the animals to be released when the time comes.

A spokesperson added: “A suitable site would be a garden with a hedgehog house, where they are able to be support fed for a while once they are released.

“They must be able to get out of the garden easily, and have access to woodland, a park, or hedgerows.

“Moorland, farmland, and dense conifer forests are unsuitable- as are sites with badgers.

“If you think your garden would be a suitable hedgehog release site, please get in touch with us and we will add you to our list.

“We will contact you when a hog is ready to be released and you can collect it from the our centre.”

Those looking to get in touch with the centre can do so by calling 01505 502415 or emailing Info@hessilhead.org.uk.
