Help Armley orchard plans come to fruition – updated

Start the New Year by joining volunteers from the Armley Common Right Trust planting trees at a new community orchard.

The event will be held at Hill Top in Armley on Sunday, 2 February, 11am.

A spokesperson said: “As always, everyone is welcome and there will be refreshments too. Look forward to starting the year with you all.”

More details of the event can be found here.

Volunteers from Amley Common Right Trust (ACRT) work all year round on maintaining and looking after six parcels of land – Armley Moor, Far Fold, Moor Top, Charlie Cake Park, Hill Top and a portion of land in Ley Lane.

The trust exists to manage the land on behalf of the people of Armley and makes decisions (after consultations) in the best interests of the long-term future of the land.

Trustees have regular meetings and additional quarterly open meetings which are open to all to attend to discuss matters around the upkeep of the land and events taking place.

ACRT usually holds regular volunteer sessions on the first Sunday of each month where anyone interested can come along and help out with gardening jobs and maintenance that needs to be done on the various pieces of land.

It also runs the Commoner’s Muck Gardening Club sessions at Charlie Cake Park on Wednesday afternoons and at Moor Top on Friday afternoons.

Information about both the monthly Sunday events and the Commoner’s Muck Gardening Club can be found on the Trust’s Facebook page.

Article updated Friday 3 January to reflect change in date to to inclement weather.
