HECK! Bedale introduces new employee benefits

Bedale based HECK! which makes sausages and burgers is rolling out the new incentives at its head office and factory.

They include revamping the canteen menu to offer a host of healthier food choices and introducing a wellness area for employees to take advantage of during their breaks.

This follows the introduction of free workplace health checks last November.

The checks were part of the company’s Check campaign, which raised more than £20,000 for men’s health charity Cahonas.

All employees were able to undergo a health MOT and receive advice and referrals to their GP if needed.

The campaign will now become a regular event each year.

HECK! co-founder, Jamie Keeble, who had testicular cancer 10 years ago, said: “We invest a significant amount of our profit back into our team and the community.

“We’re always looking for new ideas to make work a better place, both for physical and mental wellbeing.”

The company is introducing a number of new initiatives, such as a wellness area for employees to use during their breaks, and a revamped canteen menu with healthier food choices.

Heck! also has an allotment and greenhouse, and employees are encouraged to pick fruit, vegetables, and salad to either enjoy in the canteen or take home.

Mr Keeble said: “We really wanted to bring the green space to the office.

“In the summer, we’ll often have outdoor meetings and chats which is very therapeutic.”

The company also offers flexible working patterns to families and is keen to make the work environment as pleasant as possible.

Set up by the Keeble family in 2013, HECK! is the UK’s largest independent sausage maker, employing 130 people at its Bedale HQ.
