‘He foolishly took the risk!’ Wyberton drink-drive factory worker loses licence after crash in Boston

A factory worker who crashed into another vehicle while twice the legal drink-drive limit has been banned from the roads.

Wyberton resident Martins Jansons, who has a previous drink-drive conviction, collided with the vehicle travelling in front of him along Boston’s Spalding Road on December 7 – an incident that also cost him £785

“Police were called following a report of a road traffic collision,” prosecutor Lottie Tyler told Boston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (January 8).

“The defendant had crashed into the rear of a Mercedes. The suspect was believed to be in drink.”

Jansons gave a reading of 73 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

He had previously been banned for drink-driving for 20 months in 2013.

“He had been with a friend and had some beer,” said Phillipa Chatterton, defending Jansons.

“He made the mistake many do, he felt ok to drive and foolishly took the risk.

“The vehicle in front broke sharply for the railway crossing. He (Jansons) broke but skidded on the wet road and collided with that vehicle.”

Miss Chatterton added her client ‘remained at the scene’ and ‘co-operated fully’ with police.

Jansons, of Lapwing Gardens, Wyberton, pleaded guilty to drink-driving.

He was banned from the roads for 20 months and ordered to pay a £500 fine, plus a £200 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
