Harlow midwife Ciaran recognised with Daisy award from Princess Alexandra Hospital

THE Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) has announced the winner of its DAISY Awards® programme for November 2024.

The programme enables patients, families and colleagues to honour a nurse or midwife who has made a difference to their care. The aim is to shine the spotlight on nurses and midwives who go the extra mile to ensure patients at PAHT receive high quality care and experiences.

The winner for November 2024 is Ciaran Villa from Hackney, a midwife on the maternity unit. Ciaran is in the early stages of his career as a midwife and was nominated by someone he had supported in labour for not only listening to her needs, but for going above and beyond to also support her partner. She said she had felt listened to and that Ciaran advocated her wishes and needs; something she will be eternally grateful for.

Sharon McNally, chief nurse and Giuseppe Labriola, deputy chief nurse, surprised Ciaran at work yesterday (7 January) with the DAISY Award which includes a DAISY Award® certificate, a beautiful hand carved Healer’s Touch Sculpture from Zimbabwe, a pin badge, copy of the full nomination, a gift bag and cinnamon rolls.

Sharon said: “One of our trust values is to put the patient at the heart of all we do and the nomination for Ciaran clearly demonstrates that he not only puts the needs of his patients at the heart of all he does, but supports the birthing partners and wider family too.

“I was delighted to present Ciaran with our DAISY Award for November; and would like to thank him for all he does to support women and birthing people in his care.”

DAISY Award® winners are also entitled to numerous professional development, education and wellness benefits.
