Catherine, 94, and Arthur Jarman, 97, first met on their way to work at Joseph Crosfield’s and Sons when they were in their twenties.
“My dad saw my mum and thought he fancied her,” said their daughter, Diane.
“Going back to the 50s they went to tea dances and the cinemas, and then never looked back.”
Catherine, then 23, and Arthur, 27, were married at St Wilfred’s Church, on Church Lane in Grappenhall, on January 8, 1955.

The couple are described as the heart of the family, which includes three great grandchildren.
“They’re actually quite inspirational,” said Diane.
“They’re people you look up to. The way they lived their lives definitely had a bearing on the way everybody else in the family lived their own lives.
“They’re very much the hub of the family.”
Now, they pair are preparing to celebrate their platinum wedding anniversary after enjoying 70 wonderful years together.

Still living in the house they moved into as newlyweds, Catherine and Arthur have filled their home and married with laughter.
“Part of the success of their marriage is obviously they get along very well,” said Diane.
“My dad always instilled in us that whatever happens, you can always find a little bit of humour in most situations. That always makes things a little bit better.”

Diane feels that her parents’ marriage has been inspirational and has loved being able to celebrate such a milestone with them.
“I’m very fortunate to still have both parents,” she said.
“It’s lovely to see them and to have shared the weekend with them. The example they’ve set just flows over into your own life on how to deal with things when they happen.
“They still get on incredibly well, they’re so happy and they’ve had a lovely life.”
