Hampshire country pub: George & Horn in Kingsclere sold

The George & Dragon, a 17th century public house in the heart of Kingsclere, is under new ownership having fetched a price of more than £400,000.

Located on Basingstoke Road, the charming pub features a bar and restaurant, ten ensuite letting bedrooms, and a one-bedroom owner’s apartment. Renowned for its traditional pub food and Sunday roasts, The George & Horn has long been a favourite for locals and visitors alike, drawing trade from nearby attractions such as Newbury Racecourse and the picturesque Downs.

The pub, which is  well-known for serving traditional pub food and Sunday roasts, was sold for £425,000 in a sale managed by specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co.

Tim Widdows, associate director at Christie & Co, expressed optimism about the pub’s future under its new ownership, he said: “The sale of The George & Horn generated a lot of interest, reflecting the positive market conditions and the pub’s strong reputation.

“We are pleased to have facilitated this successful transaction and look forward to seeing the pub thrive under new ownership.”

A spokesperson for Christie & Co added: “We are delighted to have found a buyer who appreciates the unique charm and potential of The George & Horn. We are confident they will continue to build on the pub’s success and serve the local community well.”

The pub has been successfully sold to Uncles G&H Ltd, who plan to enhance the establishment’s offerings.

A spokesperson said: “We are excited to take over The George & Horn and look forward to bringing our vision to life.

“Our plans include enhancing the menu, hosting community events, and making the pub a central hub for both locals and visitors.”
