A ‘welcoming and inclusive’ nursery and pre-school is ‘absolutely delighted’ with the outcome of an Ofsted inspection.
Guildhall Feoffment Preschool and Nursery, in Shirehall Way, Bury St Edmunds, was rated ‘good’ overall following the inspection on December 5.
It also achieved the good rating in every area: the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership and management. The setting was also rated good by Ofsted at its last inspection, in 2019.

The recent Ofsted report praised staff for supporting children’s sense of belonging and providing them with highly-nurturing interactions, consistently promoting children’s good behaviour and creating an environment that promotes children’s independence.
The report said: “The management team and staff create a welcoming and inclusive nursery for all that attend.”
Manager Carly Shannon said: “We are absolutely delighted with our Ofsted report that clearly highlights our setting is at the very top end of the good judgements.
“I am so proud of our nursery and preschool community, and I am really pleased that the continued hard work of our incredible staff team has been recognised.
“Our report really celebrates the efforts or our staff and committee who work together with our families to create this wonderful setting.
“We will continue to work hard and do all that we can to ensure the children at our setting are always happy and thriving.”
In other highlights in the Ofsted report:
•Staff have high expectations for children. They identify children’s individual learning preferences and understand what they want children to learn from the array of activities they provide;
•There is a strong focus on the use of books to deliver the curriculum, with each room offering a carefully selected range of stories and inviting spaces for early reading;
•Staff sensitively support children to manage minor disagreements with their friends, encouraging them to respect each other’s point of view. This approach fosters an environment where children feel safe and valued;
•Staff ensure children have daily opportunities to be active and enhance their physical skills;
•Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities are well supported;
• Staff are attentive to children’s care routine;
•Partnerships with parents are positive;
•There are robust systems in place for the recruitment of staff to ensure that they are suitable to work with children.
The report said the newly-formed management team had high aspirations for the future of the nursery, including plans for more in-depth coaching and mentoring for staff. However, Ofsted said these arrangements were not yet fully embedded.
