Greene King pub The Half Moon in Mildenhall to undergo refurbishment as part of brewery’s franchise plan to create Hive Pub franchise

A Greene King pub in a Suffolk town is set to undergo a refurbishment as part of the brewery’s franchise plan.

The Half Moon in Kingsway, Mildenhall, will be renovated in 2025 and a new landlord is needed.

The business is trading under the ‘Hungry Horse’ brand, but will be completing a ‘transformational refurbishment project’ to create a Hive Pub franchise.

A Greene King spokesperson said: “We have exciting plans to invest in The Half Moon and transform it into a Hive Pub in 2025.

“Hive Pubs is our growing pub franchise brand and we are actively looking for experienced pub operators or managers who want to run a pub business with the full support of Greene King.”

The pub garden will be revamped as part of the plans with a covered, heated pergola at the heart of it and various seating options, as well as new planting, lighting and signage.

The trade area inside will be redecorated and rezoned to improve the flow of the pub to create a single central bar.

Multiple TV screens, a pool table and a darts board, are set to be included.

West Suffolk Council has approved a planning application by Greene King for a new porch at the back and access ramp to lead from the pub to the garden with a new pergola within the eastern corner of the garden.

Two new timber arches have been given the green light with the smoking shelter at the front of the pub to be removed.

The Half Moon will become the latest Hive Pub in Suffolk, following The Victoria in Thurston, near Bury St Edmunds, and The Swan in Needham Market.
