Gone in 60 seconds! Thieves use ‘scanning device’ to steal Faversham family’s £25k Ford Ranger

Shocking CCTV footage shows the moment a dad’s £25,000 pick-up truck was stolen from his driveway – with the thieves gone in less than 60 seconds.

Jordan Wisbey, who lives in Dan Drive, Faversham, with his wife Hannah and two children, has been left devastated, saying: “It feels like I’ve lost my right arm”.

Police are investigating following the rapid theft of the limited edition Ford Ranger at 2.15am this morning, which was captured on a security camera.

The video shows two individuals approaching the driveway – one then waits by the car while the other appears to be holding up a signal-scanning device close to the house.

Within a matter of seconds, one of the thieves is able to get into the car – which has keyless entry – and before a minute elapses they have driven away in the vehicle.

Mr Wisbey, who works in a bank in West Malling and has lived in the area for six years, told KentOnline: “I only got the truck in March, and I absolutely loved it.

“My heart sank when I saw the driveway empty this morning.

“This was our family car, and now I’m relying on my wife’s vehicle just to get to work.

“I’m a hard-working family man, and this is the last thing I need.”

The Ford Ranger Wildtrak Thunder is grey in colour with distinctive red stripes on the back of it.

“It feels like I’ve lost my right arm,” the 31-year-old added.

“I locked it up last night as always, but it looks like they had some kind of device to get in.

“I don’t have much hope in getting it back. I assume it’s long gone by now.

“This is such a quiet area – it’s very strange for something like this to happen.”

Police confirmed they were contacted at 7.45am on January 8, following the report of a vehicle theft.

A spokesperson said: “A grey Ford Ranger was stolen overnight from a driveway outside a residential address in Dan Drive.

“The theft is reported to have happened at around 2.15am. Enquiries are ongoing.”

On Kent Police’s website, it sets out how thieves use scanning devices to steal vehicles with keyless entry, which unlock automatically when the key comes within a short distance of the car, without the need to push a button.

Keyless car theft or ‘relay theft’ is when a device is used to fool the car into thinking the key is close by. This unlocks the car and starts the ignition.

Thieves only need to be within a few metres of your car key to capture the signal, even if it’s inside your home. This means that even if your car and home are secure, thieves can still unlock, start and steal your car.
