George Skeates Fun Run in Stockbridge to return this weekend

The 37th George Skeates Fun Run will be held on Sunday, January 12, starting at Stockbridge Town Hall.

Starting at 10am, the long course will be almost eight miles of grassy, rutted and muddy tracks linked with sections of tarmac. There will also be a shorter course of about three miles of fairly flat road and track.

Beadle family and friends (Image: Contributed) The run was started in 1986 by Mike Crossman to raise cash for the Salisbury-based integrated Spinal Rehabilitation Foundation named after his friend George – a Champion British sidecar racer who suffered a spinal injury in a motorsport accident in 1985.

Mike Crossman died of Heart Failure in 1994 but his son, Jeb, continues to organise the event and added Heartbeat to the charity list in memory of his father.

All proceeds are donated to the George Skeates Benevolent Fund with beneficiaries including Heartbeat, INSPIRE Foundation and Horatio’s Garden.
