Gary Copeland-Boyd completes fundraiser for Megan’s Space

Gary Copeland-Boyd made it his mission to run at least 2km every day throughout 2024 – a total of 366 days owing to a leap year.

His efforts came to a close on December 31, with a Gary covering over 1,000km during this time.

The challenge was far from easy, though the Irvine man was spurred on throughout as he looked to raise funds for local mental health charity Megan’s Space.

The organisation was one which was set up, in 2019, in memory of Gary’s sister Megan who tragically took her own life that same year.

On his fundraising page, Gary commented: “Her legacy now lives on through this amazing charity, which provides crucial support for young people at risk of suicide.

“Every penny raised will go directly to saving lives, offering hope, and ensuring that no one has to face their struggles alone.”

At the time of writing, his efforts have seen more than £1,500 raised for the charity – with his Crowdfunder still available online at crowdfunder.co.uk/p/run366formegansspace.

The last day of Gary’s journey saw him complete a 5km run along Irvine harbourside – delivering a message of thanks to the dozens who came out to support him despite stormy conditions.

He said: “It’s been a mental year. Thank you to everyone who came out and a massive thanks to the runners who came with me – today was brutal and I’d have struggled way more without you.

“Hitting the £1500 mark is insane so thank you also to every single person who’s chucked in a few quid. You’re all the real champions.”
