A man who lost five stone in weight during the Covid pandemic thanks to the support of a fitness group has launched a new bootcamp with his wife.
The first sessions for Martyn and Tash Harker’s new venture – Fusion Fitness – took place on Monday.
The fitness sessions are held at New Cangle Primary School, in Chapple Drive, Haverhill (where the youngest of their three children is a pupil), but for Martyn, 34, and Tash, it was not something the Kedington-based couple would have dreamt of doing in their formative years.

Martyn said: “If you take the clock back to secondary school, we both absolutely despised fitness, PE.
“We would try and bunk off lessons and dodge it but we have come full circle now, which is crazy in some ways.”
Martyn works by day as a catering manager at Cambridge Science Park, with Trish, 37, a part-time learning assistant at the Granta School, in Linton.

While Fusion Fitness is a part-time business they have experience in the field, having both previously worked for another bootcamp in the Haverhill area, where Tash and Martyn met before going on to get married.
And the impact a bootcamp can have is not lost on Martyn.
He said: “I joined the bootcamp in lockdown and lost a lot of weight. I lost five stone so had a big transformation.”
Setting up the new fitness and exercise sessions was a major step for Martyn and Tash, but with the latter having worked in the fitness world for years and being a well-known figure as a result, the early signs for Fusion Fitness are looking good.
“We have got 35 clients that have joined us, which has been an incredible start,” said Martyn.
“We wanted 35 as a minimum going into the new year,” said Martyn, who will be largely behind the scenes as Tash leads the majority of sessions.
He went on to say how knowledge gained in his day would help to shape a future strand of the new business, looking at nutrition and diet.
He said: “Moving forward, I will be demonstrating things for the clients and looking at dishes that are better choices for them.”
Fusion Fitness is a circuit training-style bootcamp, said Martyn, with sessions using different styles of exercise.
Sessions are on Monday and Thursday at 5.30-6.15pm and 6.30-7.15pm; Tuesday, 6-6.45pm; Saturday, 8.15-9am.
Small group sessions are available with Tash on a Wednesday.
