Full list of schools closed in North Yorkshire after snow

Last weekend, the region faced several weather warnings as a winter freeze brought a blanket of snow – with up to 20cm forecast in some areas – and sub-zero temperatures.

The weather caused widespread disruption to roads and rail across the North East, with crashes on major roads and cars being stuck on banks throughout the weekend.

Temperatures are still expected to remain freezing over the coming days, with the Met Office predicting it will feel like -8°C in Danby, North Yorkshire, overnight (January 7).

And while the snow may have melted away in some parts, other areas, especially those in North Yorkshire, still have a significant amount of snow.

This has meant that several schools have been forced to remain closed, just as children were due to head back after the Christmas break.

There are a total of 22 schools closed in North Yorkshire as of 9.10am this morning, with one school forced to shut in the morning but due to open soon.
