The Environment Agency has confirmed that flood gates at Surfleet Reservoir have been open to help discharge water after torrential rain battered the county yesterday.
A major incident was declared yesterday (Monday, January 6) following the heavy rain which resulted in more than 150 homes across the county being flooded – included some in Billingborough.
A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: “The gates at Surfleet are currently open to allow water to be discharged during the low tide but will be closed again this evening to protect during the high tide.

“We removed the flood warning which was previously in place for the River Glen at Surfleet Reservoir on Tuesday morning. A flood alert, however, remains in place for much of the area surrounding Surfleet.
“We have not activated the Crowland and Cowbit Washes at this time but will be keeping a close eye on the river levels as they peak to see if this needs to change.
“We will continue to monitor the situation more widely with duty teams checking our assets are operating correctly and, where safe, clearing blockages and screens.”
