Five South Ayrshire businesses that opened in 2024

With 2024 nearly at an end, we’re looking back at five of those that started trading in the past year…

JACKTON MOOR KITCHENS – PRESTWICK

Ayr and Kilmarnock managers Scott Brown and Derek McInnes were on hand to help open a new showroom in Prestwick.

Jackton Moor Kitchens opened in the town on the corner of Main Street and Kyle Street, which was previously operated by the Lavemill Larder zero waste eco shop.

The business, which also operates in East Kilbride, has been running for 22 years, and teased its opening in South Ayrshire on social media.

In a grand opening on Monday, October 28, special guests including the football managers were invited to take in the occasion.

DOMESTIC WAREHOUSE LTD – AYR

Domestic Warehouse Ltd opened its doors at 47 Kyle Street in Ayr back in May.

The business has a main store and showroom in Stevenston as well as a distribution and testing facility in Clydebank.

Domestic Warehouse Ltd was formed in 2023 by business partners George Wann and Scott Brown.

It aims to benefit local communities by making available, low-cost household appliances which are tried and tested and come with a 60-day repair or replace warranty.

SC DESIGNS – AYR

A thriving business expanded into Ayr in October with a brand new showroom.

SC Designs are a family-run home improvement company originally based in Bishopbriggs but expanded into Ayr with a grand opening.

The business, which first opened in 2010, includes bathrooms, kitchens and bedrooms. It opened at a site next to Ayr train station.

OAKHOLME INTERIORS – AYR

Another new business opened its doors in Ayr in March – after taking over a shop that had been lying empty for seven years.

Scott Lambie, who had been trading online as Oakholme Interiors, opened to the public at 17 New Bridge Street.

The shop had previously been used as a tattooist, hair salon and a kitchen studio, but had been lying empty since 2017.

Scott, who sells mirrors, wall art and canvas prints, has hailed the Ayr public for their support of his new business.

MERKUR SLOTS – AYR

Ayr town centre was handed a jobs boost with the opening of a new entertainment centre in early December.

MERKUR Slots opened a £200,000 venue forming part of High Street – creating 10 new local jobs in the process.

The new venue features the latest bingo and digital slot machines, and an extensive library of new and classic games.
