The Aquablation Robotic System has been introduced at Basingstoke hospital.
It provides innovative treatment for men suffering from benign prostate enlargement (BPE).
The system was funded by the Hampshire Medical Fund, with a large contribution from Lord and Lady Lloyd Webber.
They hosted a fundraising event at their home over the summer to raise money for the equipment.

Richard Hindley, urology consultant, with the team from the Diagnosis and Treatment Centre Theatre at Basingstoke hospital, with the new robotic equipment (Image: Hampshire Medical Fund) Daniel Benton, chairman of the Hampshire Medical Fund, said: “We are incredibly proud to have funded the first piece of robotic equipment for Hampshire Hospitals, allowing surgeons to combine their expertise with the precision of advanced robotic technology.
“The decision to support this project was driven by the clear evidence of benefits on two fronts: improved efficiency for the hospital as the system shortens theatre time enabling the hospital to treat more patients, and, crucially, enhanced patient outcomes – it offers patients a safer experience with a much lower risk of side effects, preserving their quality of life.”
BPE is a condition that affects more than 30,000 men in the UK each year, significantly impacting their quality of life.
It affects urinary and sexual functions, making it difficult to pass urine due to pressure on the bladder and urethra.
Traditional treatments carry high risks of irreversible side effects, including bladder control issues, reduced sexual drive and erectile dysfunction.
The Aquablation Robotic System, however, offers a safer and more effective alternative with a low risk of complications.

Recently endorsed by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), it provides precision treatment that is set to revolutionise prostate healthcare.
Richard Hindley, urology consultant at Basingstoke hospital, said: “This technology is very exciting and enables us to provide a durable solution with minimal side effects for men dealing with this common condition.
“As the first robotic system at Hampshire Hospitals, it will also open doors for further research and attract top talent to our urology team.”
The Aquablation Robotic System has already transformed the life of Martin Kelly, a resident of Basingstoke.
Diagnosed with BPE in 2021, Martin underwent Aquablation therapy in January 2023 and has seen significant improvement in his quality of life.
He said: “Don’t ignore the signs. Speak to your doctor, especially if it’s affecting your life.
“Prostate health is something every man should take seriously.”
Martin’s experience highlights the importance of early diagnosis and proactive care.
