Firefighters rescue 15 people and dog in Bewsey and Dallam flooding

It comes as dozens of homes and businesses were struck by flooding across the town on New Year’s Day.

Among the areas particularly impacted were Bewsey and Dallam, with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service detailing some of the incidents it attended.

One was at 5.51pm yesterday, Wednesday, with a crew from Tarporley Fire Station being dispatched to assist with rescue efforts.

Firefighters used wading equipment to rescue five residents from properties on Longshaw Street that had been affected by flooding.

Minutes later, at 5.57pm, a fire engine was sent from Runcorn Fire Station to nearby Reid Avenue, where firefighters used a raft to evacuate four people from a flooded property.

Another rescue was conducted at 6.11pm, when the Tarporley crew then freed three residents and a dog trapped in another flooded property on Longshaw Street.

Half an hour later, at 6.44pm, the same crew assisted in the rescue of two more residents from a flooded property, again on Longshaw Street.

As well as homes, firefighters also assisted in the rescue of people trapped in cars.

At 7.13pm, the crew from Runcorn Fire Station was sent to Longshaw Street to help a driver to safety from their car after it became stuck in floodwater.
