Final opportunity to apply for primary school places

PARENTS and carers of children who will start primary school in September encouraged to complete applications.

Parents and carers are reminded that they have until 15 January 2025 to apply for their child’s primary school place.

Children are entitled to start school in the September after their fourth birthday, meaning parents or carers of children born during the period 1 Sept 2020 and 31 August 2021 must apply by Wednesday 15 January 2025.

Applications submitted after the deadline will only be considered after all the on-time applications. Essex County Council is urging families to give themselves the best chance of being considered for a school they prefer by getting applications in on time.

The council has also encouraged parents and carers to use all four of the preferences available and to check the admissions criteria for each school they wish to apply for. This will ensure they have the best chance of being offered a preferred place.

Applications can be made online at www.essex.gov.uk/admissions.

Councillor Tony Ball, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Education Excellence, Lifelong Learning and Employability, said: “Starting primary school is an exciting milestone in a child’s life and the application process is the first step.”

Further information about the admissions process and individual schools can be found at www.essex.gov.uk/admissions.
