Jonny plays Liam in Emmerdale when he joined in 2014 and became a regular back in 2018.
Jonny, 42, whose birthday is on December 4, was in Saltburn reportedly visiting his family.
Delighted Ann O’Brien was working at Sainsbury’s on New Year’s Day when she got to meet ‘the lovely doctor Liam’.
Ann said: “I’m such a geek lol. What a lovely surprise on New Year’s Day at work. The lovely doctor Liam from Emmerdale was visiting family in Saltburn. It’s made my year.
“He was lovely and so polite and thanked us all for watching Emmerdale. I’m a big fan and love the show so when I heard he was in it was so exciting.
“He said it was lovely to meet me and looked at my badge and said my name. It’s the little things in life. I am grinning like a Cheshire Cat.

“I think I was a little starstruck but what a lovely, kind, down-to-earth man who made time to chat with all of us who said hello whilst he was shopping.
“A great moment to end 2024.”

Jonny was also spotted at the new Truffled Hog in Saltburn whilst he was in the area.
