EE’s Elgin future uncertain as company “considers options” after St Giles Centre closure

Mobile network operator EE is “considering its options” after the closure of the St Giles Centre.

The company has a store within the Elgin shopping centre but – like others – has to move out before Monday, January 20.

This follows an announcement on Wednesday (January 8) that all businesses have to vacate the closing centre by that date.

Asked by The Northern Scot whether they planned to remain in Elgin, an EE spokesperson said: “We are considering our options and putting plans in place to support our colleagues and customers in the meantime.”

Other businesses have also been confirming future plans. Argos provided an update this afternoon.

Subway said a new store is “unlikely”, while The Works is closing for good.

Waterstones and Ramsdens are committed to remaining in town, as are Ashers – who plan to expand their high street bakery and keep staff on.

Stagecoach’s operations at Elgin Bus Station “may be affected” by the centre’s closure.

O2 and WHSmith have been contacted by The Northern Scot but are yet to confirm plans.
