Easter eggs on shelves after Christmas is ‘disgraceful’

The debate has sparked a lively discussion among readers of The Northern Echo with many taking to social media expressing their opinions on the early appearance of Easter treats.

Neil Murphy commented: “They should just leave all the seasonal sections empty until March.

“People will then moan about the emptiness. Unwinnable game.”

Others have noticed the trend as well.

Patricia Wallace noted: “Saw Cadburys creme eggs over 2 weeks ago in local newsagents,” while Thomas Cummins remarked: “Always the same with eggs and holidays after Christmas.”

Some readers have a different perspective.

Robert Cunningham said: “Great I’ll have to get some to go with my hot cross buns,” showing enthusiasm for the early offerings.

Louise Robinson suggested: “Buy reduced Christmas tubs instead of eggs, much cheaper and you get more!”

However, many are unhappy with the timing.

Christine Kelly expressed frustration: “They’re in all supermarkets, have been since Boxing Day, though Good Friday isn’t until 18th of April which is about 4 months away.

“Bloody stupid, like Christmas stuff at the end of August!”

Bernice Smith posed a question to those complaining: “Would people prefer to see empty shelves?”

Sandra Simpson pointed out: “Christmas stuff was in the shops in September, why the fuss about Easter eggs?”

Despite the mixed opinions, some readers feel the early displays are a common occurrence.

John Defty said: “It happens every year nothing new.”
