Dunfermline Gilbert and Sullivan Society announce new show

The group have revealed that they will be performing a brand-new piece of work, The Jury’s Out, written and directed by Linda Milne with music arranged by Willie Campbell.

DGASS publicity manager, Clare White, told the Press: Linda has performed regularly throughout Fife with both Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy Gilbert and Sullivan Societies,  taking on several principal roles and is also a member of for example the Kingdom Singers.

“This is her first opportunity to direct a show and she says that she is really enjoying the experience. DGASS are delighted and honoured that she is trusting us with her new and exciting work.

“Trial by Jury, a well-loved Gilbert and Sullivan operetta,  is about a breach of promise case that ends up in court and Linda says that she always wondered why the plaintiff and the defendant ended up in court and has answered that question in this imaginative and fun piece.

“She has taken the operetta and has woven into it, a modern love story of sweethearts Sally and Richard whose romance ends up in court.”

Set over two acts, the show promises many twists and turns as it follows the romance of Richard and Sally.

Clare continued: “DGASS are also delighted that our honorary President, Frances McCafferty will be joining us.

“Frances has performed in operas nationally and internationally and we are honoured and humbled that she is supporting us in this venture

“We hope it will attract a new audience of those who are not as familiar with Gilbert and Sullivan while appealing to those who are.

“We in DGASS are determined to try and ensure that this wonderful art form thrives and that the tradition of quality locally performed theatre continues and grows.”

The show will premiere in February 2025.
