Doon Valley: Drew Filson clean up car fly-tipping issue

Councillor Drew Filson published images of what appeared to be in the interior of a car that had been dumped close to Dalcairney Falls.

The independent councillor has also reported incidents close to Loch Doon, as well as issues near Dalmellington, Patna and the rest of the area.

Cllr Filson will often report the issue to the council, or clean it up himself on occasions.

This selfless work has not gone unnoticed by locals in the area, but they feel that people should be taking a lot more pride in where they live.

“Whether it’s Loch Doon or Dalcairney Falls, we really need to start taking better care of where we love.

“It might not be people from around here that’s doing this, so I’m not sure how that can be policed, but we can all do our bit to make sure it’s not people from around here making these awful messes.

“Councillor Filson does a noble job cleaning up these issues when he can and highlighting the problem, but it can’t be left to one man to take responsibility, we all need to do our bit.”

Cllr Filson said it was workers from WSH Fencing that highlighted the latest problem to him and that anyone who has any information about this specific dumping can contact him in confidence.

The East Ayrshire Council website has a dedicated section that you can report fly-tipping incidents, by providing details such as when and where the issue occurred.

The website adds: “Fines are up to £40,000 and/or six months imprisonment.

“Fines are unlimited if the case goes to the High Court, and offenders can get up to two years imprisonment, or five years if hazardous waste is dumped.”
