One of Scotland’s biggest bakers has issued a recall notice on its packs of brown rolls over allergy fears.
McGhee’s which are infamous for making bread, rolls and pastries say there has been a packaging error on its six pack of Scottish Brown Rolls.
Several of the packages contain white rolls – presenting a health risk for anyone with an allergy to soya.
The company, based in Glasgow, issued the urgent recall notice via the Food Standards Scotland (FSS) on Friday for packs dated best before January 12 with batch code LS5007.
No other McGhee’s Family Bakers products are known to be affected, the notice said.
The packs were sold at Asda and Sainsbury stores, with customers urged not to eat them if they have an allergy to soya.
The item can be returned to the store in which it was purchased for a full refund.
An FSS statement read: “McGhee’s Family Bakers is recalling the above product which was sold at Asda and Sainsbury’s stores and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.
“The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.
“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”
