Planning permission in principle was granted by Fife Council in December 2018 for the proposals.
The site has been named Kingswood by developers Stirling Developments Ltd who last year asked for permission to amend some of the original plans.
Along with the new homes, two primary schools, shops, employment and commercial units, healthcare facilities, parks and green space are also planned with the development period spanning 25-30 years.
Work is still ongoing to finalise the details which it is hoped will be agreed in the coming months.

Providing an update to the Press, the firm’s Director of Projects Ray Kirk, said: “Working through the detailed planning process with Fife Council has taken longer than initially expected, although positively, this has allowed for further review of proposals.
“The knock-on effect is that site works will be delayed until mid-2025. We are making good progress with the planning authority and anticipate a positive determination early 2025.”
The Kingswood masterplan took inspiration from The Grand Plan for Dunfermline, unveiled 100 years ago, which included a major development at Broomhall and spoke of “grand boulevards and regal architecture.”
The development is one of several which will bring thousands of new homes to West Fife in the coming years.
There are currently 1,400 planned for between Kingseat and Halbeath and over 1,000 at Wellwood. Land at Berrylaw is zoned for another 900 however no plans have yet been lodged.
