The airport brought in a host of new flights for travellers to book and enjoy, with sunny sights to see in Bourgas, Bulgaria, with flights starting on June 23 and running until September 1 2025, while holidaymakers will be able to jet off to Reus and Almeria in Spain and Malta with easyJet, with the first flights expected to depart on March 30.
Balkan Holidays trialled a new route to sunny seaside Bourgas this summer, and it has now been confirmed they will return next year after becoming a hit.
The flights will run every Monday for 12 weeks between June 23 and September 1, taking the total number of summer routes on offer from Southend up to 17.
Adding to this, holidaymakers will have 16 destinations to choose from at Southend Airport when the new easyJet base opens in the New Year.
Six new routes to Pisa, Gran Canaria, Dalaman and Antalya, Marrakech and Enfidha, Tunisia were launched by easyJet at the airport in May 2024, with first flights set to depart from May 1 2025.
The Echo asked its readers which destinations they would most like to see offered by Southend Airport in 2025, with answers ranging from Jersey to Greece.
Speaking on what they wanted to see at the airport, resident Billie Collins said: “We need the Southend to Newquay flights.”
Kim Batkin added: “Absolutely. My granddaughter has just been born in Newquay and it’s a 16-hour round car trip to visit. I’d love to see her more often.”
Helen Poland called for more trips to Cyprus, as well as mainland Greece and its surrounding islands.
Jon Rose called for trips closer to home to be made more readily available, adding he would like to see more flights to Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.
Thea Murphy called for more flights to Catalonia and would love to see a return of Barcelona as a destination, while Carole Barnett would like to visit Murcia.
Other destinations people would like to see include Dublin, Newcastle, Malaga, Lanzarote and more.
