Death of man understood to be controversial Moray dog owner Andrew Debidin not believed to be ‘suspicious’, Police Scotland say

Police say enquiries are ongoing regarding the death of a 71-year-old man in Moray.

The body of a man, understood to be controversial dog owner Andrew Debidin, was found at a property in Rothiemay in December.

Police enquiries are ongoing.

The circumstances surrounding his death are unclear with both police enquiries and a Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service investigation ongoing.

Police believe there are no suspicious circumstances behind Mr Debidin’s death.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland told The Northern Scot: “We received a report of concern for a person at a property in the Mayen Road area of Rothiemay, around 9.40pm on Saturday, December 14, 2024.

“Emergency services attended and the body of a 71-year-old man was found within.

“Enquiries are ongoing however there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

“A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”

Mr Debidin made national headlines more than a decade ago when he won the right to keep nearly 50 Alsatians at his compound in Rothiemay in 2012.

The SSPCA confirmed that two dogs were recovered from the property last month adding that they will now be rehomed.
