New Year is a time to look forward as well as back, and I’m delighted to see that our new My Bay scheme has just gone live. More than 1,000 people have already started to take advantage of exclusive savings, deals and discounts from more than 100 local businesses in Torbay.
Members get a resident card and a permit, which provides an extra hour of free parking when they use cash or card to buy a ticket for an hour or more in our off-street pay-and-display car parks, plus the My Bay card also gives £10 worth of entry to public toilets in Torbay, that is 33 visits.
The scheme was designed after a series of surveys where residents asked for something special to recognise they were people who live within Torbay. We recognise that the last few years have been difficult for many due to rises in the cost of living. However we are confident the My Bay scheme will be a way to help your money go further while making the most of the fantastic local businesses in Torbay.
We want to encourage people to get out and about more, at the same time supporting the local economy. Using the new card, we can all play a part in helping Torbay thrive, while enjoying more of what our beautiful Bay has to offer.
I want to say a big thank you to the people who signed up for My Bay with this early bird offer, your support is massively appreciated and if you missed the first sign-up period, I’m delighted to announce that there is now another chance to join.
Residents can sign up between Thursday January 2, 2025, and midday on Friday February 14, 2025. This is to become a My Bay member from April 1 2025 for 12 months. Once your application is approved and you have paid the £10 fee to cover admin costs, your resident card and parking permit will be posted to you. Then you will be all set to start saving from April 1. If you are a Carer registered with Torbay Carers, we have waived the £10 fee as a thank-you for the amazing work you do.
If you would like to find out more details including the full terms and conditions of this scheme, please check out the special webpages we have created in the My Bay section of the Torbay Council website (torbay.gov.uk/mybay). If you’re not able to use digital services, you can apply in person at the libraries in Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. Alternatively, If you’ve got any questions, you can get advice from our Customer Service team on 01803 207900.
I do need to remind you, if you’re applying for a My Bay card and parking permit, you must upload or show a copy of your driving licence and V5 vehicle registration document, Motability Agreement or Lease Agreement. This will also count as your proof of residence.
If you just want the My Bay card (without parking), you must provide a recent document proving your main or only home is in Torbay.
Once registered and you have your card you will want to start using it straight away. To check out all the active offers, just take a look on the My Bay section of the Council’s website. You will find a full list of all current signed-up businesses (and this is growing monthly), there really is something for everyone. There are offers in Sport and Leisure, Food and Drink, Health and Wellbeing, Fashion and Retail, Arts and Crafts, Professional Services, Homes Goods and Services, Travel and Stays, Culture and Entertainment.
Finally, I would just like to invite any of our businesses across the bay who may like to join in the scheme to visit the website – Torbay.gov.uk/mybay and let us have your offer – we will be in touch. The scheme is totally free to local businesses and the offer is entirely up to your discretion. I am also working with South Devon College and we hope to launch an app for MyBay in the Summer. This will allow businesses to log in and change their offer directly with a notification going out to users who have signed up and requested notifications.
I look forward to My Bay going from strength to strength in 2025 as we continue to do all we can to support the people who live in Torbay and help the economy thrive.
Happy New Year.
