Dashcam footage shows the moment Great Shefford woman’s new car was completely wrecked in crash

Dashcam footage shows the moment a woman’s new car was completely wrecked – just hours after she sold her old vehicle.

But mum-of-one, Adele Gough, from Great Shefford, said she is still in high spirits despite suffering ongoing pain from her injuries weeks after the crash.

The 34-year-old was running errands on November 30 last year and had just come off Swindon’s Magic Roundabout when a car hit her.

Footage shows Adele driving along Country Road on the A4289 when a black vehicle suddenly veers off its side of the road and smashes into her.

The collision destroyed her car and Adele spent the night in hospital with severe bruising around her lower stomach and whiplash on the back of her neck.

And she said it had been a difficult time before Christmas.

“It’s been very stressful,” she added. “I was off work for two weeks. It’s been a bit of a struggle [going back to work] but I couldn’t afford to stay off any longer.

“The car has been written off and I’m back to square one.”

She said she is now currently borrowing a family camper van to get around while she works out what to do next.

She is also still receiving physiotherapy on a sprain to her hand and said although the bruising on her stomach has now gone she is still very sore.

“I am still in high spirits,” she added. “I was extremely lucky and everything is working out already and everything will be fine.”

Adele had purchased the MG Motor car less than a month earlier and had only sold her old car that day.

She said she didn’t press charges and her insurance claim has been paid out now and has covered the cost of her car – £4,499.

Adele, a hotel cleaner, said: “It’s just my luck but I woke up with two cars that morning and went to bed with none!

“I had sold my old Ford Focus for £100 that morning because I thought I was all set with my nice new car.”

Adele remembers the incident clearly, but still has no idea what exactly happened.

“I was just happily driving along when I saw the car coming towards me out of the corner of my eye,” she said.

“I hit the brakes as soon as I could but I wasn’t able to make a full stop before the other car made impact.

“My airbag went off and hit me in my chest and chin, leaving me winded.”

The motorist behind her stopped to help while the police were called.

Adele said: “Less than a couple minutes later, there was police everywhere and we were both questioned before going to hospital.

“The insurance company have been great by [initially] providing me with a hire car and even sending me flowers.

“However, I had planned to take my son, who’s eight, on his first ever holiday abroad in February but that’s now on hold until I get the compensation.

“Without the financial side of it settled, I can’t be sure I’ll be able to afford it.

“I just hope we hear back soon so I have good enough time to plan and book stuff.”

Wiltshire Police said at the time of the crash: “We responded to a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on Drove Road shortly after 8.30pm on Saturday (30/11).

“Both drivers sustained minor injuries which required hospital treatment.

“A man aged in his 20s was reported for driving without due care and attention.”
