Cranbourne School, in Wessex Close, was closed on Monday, January 6, the scheduled first day back at school for students entering the Spring term after the Christmas holidays.
In a letter sent to parents, headteacher Sarah Conlon said the announcement was ‘not how we [the school] wanted to start the new term’, calling it ‘hugely disappointing’.

Staff discovered the leak on Friday, January 4, with contractors visiting the same day to shut off the water supply.
However, contractors weren’t able to return to fix the issue until Monday, January 6.
The decision to close the school was made as there was no water in the main block, ‘significantly reducing toilet facilities for students and all toilets’, said Mrs Conlon.
The headteacher said that work would be uploaded to the parent portal and communication app, Edulink for students to complete ‘if they are able to’ to minimise disruption.
She added that she hopes the school will be able to reopen on Tuesday, January 6, with parents advised to check for updates on Cranbourne’s website and social media pages.
