Courts: 16 south Essex people sentenced by magistrates

 

A drink-driver caught in Leatherhead has been banned from driving for 20 months.

Victoria Collard, 45, of Pound Lane, Bowers Gifford, was found to have 149 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80. She was stopped while driving an Audi on the A243 in Leatherhead on April 25, 2024.

Collard admitted the offence at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on January 9.

She was fined £120, ordered to pay £85 in costs, and a £48 surcharge. Her disqualification could be reduced by 20 weeks if she completes a drink-drive awareness course by February 21, 2026.

A LEIGH man has been banned from driving for 15 months after being caught drink-driving on the A127.

Craig Burden, 23, of Ashcombe Close, was found with 58 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35. He was driving a Ford Focus on December 11, 2024, in Rayleigh.

Burden admitted the offence at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on December 31. He was fined £120, ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs, and a £48 victim surcharge. His disqualification could be reduced by 15 weeks if he completes a drink-drive course by October 15, 2025.  

A Chafford Hundred man has been banned from driving for 32 months after being caught drink-driving in Tilbury.

Sean Cunningham, 35, of Douglas Close, was found with 129 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35. He was driving a Ford Kuga on Thurrock Parkway on December 14.

Cunningham admitted the offence at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on December 31. He was given a 12-month community order requiring 240 hours of unpaid work.

He must also pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £114 victim surcharge. His driving ban could be reduced by 32 weeks if he completes a course by November 18, 2026.

A MAN has been banned from driving for six months after being caught speeding on the Dartford-Thurrock Crossing.

Elvis Adu-Gyamfi, 57, was recorded driving a Nissan Qashqai at more than 50mph on the A282 on May 27.

He admitted the offence at Stratford Magistrates’ Court on January 14, and was fined £232. He was also ordered to pay £110 in costs. Adu-Gyamfi, of Shaw Avenue, Barking, received a six-month driving ban due to accumulating penalty points.

A South Woodham Ferrers woman has been banned from driving for 33 months after being caught drink-driving at over three times the legal limit.

Yuliia Poprozhuk, 37, of Tighfield Walk, was found with 132 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35. She was stopped while driving on Queen Elizabeth II Square, Chelmsford, on December 10.

Poprozhuk admitted the offence at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on December 31. She was given a 12-month community order requiring 200 hours of unpaid work. She must also pay £85 in costs and a £114 victim surcharge. Her driving ban could be reduced by 33 weeks if she completes a course by December 10, 2026.

A CANVEY man has been fined for speeding on the M1 in Sheffield, exceeding a temporary 50mph limit.

Darius Valentin Boldor, 45, of Furtherwick Road, was caught driving a Land Rover at 63mph on the southbound M1 between Junctions 35 and 34 on January 7, 2024. The offence was recorded by an automatic camera system at 11.47pm.

The case was proved in Boldor’s absence at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on January 15. He was fined £220, ordered to pay £110 in costs and an £88 victim surcharge, and his licence was endorsed with three penalty points. All payments must be made by February 12, 2025.

A MAN has been banned from driving for six months for using a van without insurance in Wickford.

James Carr, 44, of Warwick Road, Rainham was caught driving a Ford Luton van on Heron Avenue on April 20, 2024, without third-party insurance.

Carr admitted the offence on January 11, 2025. He was fined £400, ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs, and a £160 victim surcharge. His licence was endorsed with eight penalty points, resulting in a six-month driving ban. He must pay the total amount in £100 monthly instalments starting February 8, 2025.

A TEENAGER has been banned from driving for six months after being caught driving without insurance in West Sussex.

Johnny Smith, 19, of Oak Road, Crays Hill, was stopped on the A23 in Warninglid on January 14, 2025, while driving a VW Golf without third party insurance.

Smith admitted the offence the following day, at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on January 15. He was fined £120, ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs, and a £48 victim surcharge. His licence was endorsed with six penalty points, leading to a six-month driving ban. The total amount of £253 was enforced immediately.

A MAN has been fined for sending a grossly offensive message online.

Harry Hustwayte, 29, of Halesworth Road, Romford, admitted sending a message of an obscene or menacing nature on August 15, 2024. The offence took place in Billericay and breached the Communications Act 2003.

Appearing at Southend Magistrates’ Court on December 23, 2024, Hustwayte was fined £120, with his guilty plea taken into account. He was also ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £48 victim surcharge.  

A South Ockendon man has been fined and given penalty points for failing to identify a vehicle’s driver.

Hassan Sesay, 31, of Mollands Lane, South Ockendon, was found guilty of failing to provide information about the driver of a Land Rover Range Rover Sport, on November 30, 2023, in Billericay.

Appearing at Southend Magistrates’ Court on December 20, 2024, Sesay was fined £100 and ordered to pay £400 in prosecution costs and a £40 victim surcharge. His driving record was endorsed with six penalty points.  

A MAN has been fined and given penalty points for failing to identify a vehicle’s driver.

Xheladinjo Bajraktari, 24, of Hermitage Walk, Redbridge, was found to have failed to provide information about the driver of a Vauxhall Astra, on January 10 in Billericay.

The case was proved at Southend Magistrates’ Court on December 20. Bajraktari was fined £660 and ordered to pay £650 in prosecution costs and a £264 victim surcharge. His driving record was endorsed with six penalty points.

Ilyas Mohamed-Habib, 26, of Green Lane, Ilford, was found to have failed to provide information about the driver of a Mercedes E350 on January 11 in Billericay.

The case was proved at Southend Magistrates’ Court on December 20. Mohamed-Habib was fined £609 and ordered to pay £650 in prosecution costs and a £244 victim surcharge. His driving record was endorsed with six penalty points.

A SOUTHEND man has been fined and given penalty points for being in charge of a vehicle while over the drug limit.

Thayan Kanthavel, 20, of Willingale Way, Southend, was found with 134 micrograms of Benzoylecgonine in his blood, exceeding the legal limit, while in charge of a Volkswagen Polo on London Road, Southend, on June 21 last year.

Appearing at Southend Magistrates’ Court on January 7, Kanthavel pleaded guilty and was fined £120, with his guilty plea taken into account.

He was also ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £48 victim surcharge. His driving record was endorsed with 10 penalty points. 

A BASILDON man has been banned from driving for failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

Jimmy Stevens, 44, of Theydon Crescent, Basildon, admitted failing to provide a blood sample when required on December 21, in Southend. Police suspected him of having driven a vehicle and requested the sample as part of an investigation.

Appearing at Southend Magistrates’ Court on December 23, Stevens was fined £200, with his guilty plea taken into account. He was also ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and an £80 victim surcharge. He was disqualified from driving for 20 months.

A Southend man has been jailed for threatening a person with a kitchen knife.

Yaw Donkor, 50, of Tickfield Avenue, Southend, was found guilty of unlawfully and intentionally threatening the victim with a kitchen knife at his home on November 8. The incident created an immediate risk of serious harm.

Appearing at Southend Magistrates’ Court on December 23, Donkor was sentenced to 12 months in prison. The court noted the offence was aggravated by his previous convictions and the fact it occurred while he was on licence. The knife was confiscated, and no costs were ordered due to his limited means.

A SOUTHEND man has been conditionally discharged for possessing Class A and Class B drugs after demonstrating significant efforts to tackle his addiction.

Simon Johnston, 57, of Chase Road, Southend, admitted possessing crack cocaine, heroin, and cannabis on September 5, 2023, in Southend. The drugs were ordered to be forfeited and destroyed.

Appearing at Southend Magistrates’ Court on December 23, Johnston received a 12-month conditional discharge. The court acknowledged his substantial progress in addressing his addiction, including engaging with two support agencies and receiving an award for his efforts.

He was also ordered to pay £40 in prosecution costs and a £26 victim surcharge.
