Cotswolds town named one of UK’s best places to live

According to data collected by The Sunday Times, Cirencester in Gloucestershire was ranked as one of the most popular locations to reside in.

But places which have previously featured on national rankings have been left out this time.

As part of the new rankings compiled by The Sunday Times, data from nine categories for every local authority was combined including crime rates, Ofsted reports, NHS waiting times, average house prices and the number of Green Flag parks in the area.

The article read: “If you want an authentic Cotswold life — markets, shops, parks, cafés and a smattering of culture to elevate it above the weekender 4WD norm, along with pretty houses, Barbours and dogs — then home in on Cirencester.

“This ancient market town offers modern comforts and a stellar community spirit. The volunteers who run the heated open-air swimming pool were recognised last year with the King’s Award for Voluntary Service.”

The average property price in Cirencester is £505,500 and The Sunday Times also outlined the best places within Cirencester to live.

“There’s a pleasing practical choice of properties, from medieval cottages to Victorian terraces and modern newbuilds,” continued the article.

Somerford Road has the biggest and best of the Cotswold stone Arts and Crafts houses (budget up to £1.5 million), while the historic townhouses on Cecily Hill, next to Cirencester Park, can fetch £1 million.

“Villages on the outskirts include Sapperton, Quenington and Coln St Aldwyns.”
