Mark Edwards was last seen at around 9am on Tuesday, December 10, on Fearnhead Lane, and it was believed that he had travelled to north Wales.
Cheshire Police launched an appeal that day for the public’s help in finding him, with officers renewing this appeal the following day.
A further appeal was issued on Friday, December 13, with cameras picking up the 54-year-old’s car being driven in the Denbighshire area of north Wales.
However, the force sadly confirmed that same day that a body had been found.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “Officers investigating the disappearance of a 54-year-old man from Warrington have confirmed that a body has been found.
“Formal identification is yet to take place, but it is believed to be that of Mark Edwards.
“His next-of-kin has been informed, and specially trained officers are supporting them while enquiries continue.”
In their appeals, officers said they were ‘growing increasingly concerned for Mark’s welfare’.
Now, an inquest has been formally opened into Mr Edwards’ death at Ruthin Coroner’s Court in north Wales.
A coroner officer confirmed during the hearing on Monday, December 30, that the deceased, of Fearnhead in Warrington, died at Llyn Brenig, Denbighshire, on December 13, 2024.
Following post-mortem, the cause of his death saw the case deferred to an inquest.
John Gittins, senior coroner for north Wales east and central regions, formally opened the inquest and adjourned for a full inquest at a later date, to be set in due course.
