Colliers Adventure Farm in Nelson opened its doors in 2023
Colliers Adventure Farm in Nelson has received more than £35,000 in UK Government grants in a bid to become more sustainable.
The popular farm on Caerphilly Road first opened its doors in March 2023, providing educational activities tailored for school trips in both Welsh and English.
The farm also offers regular sessions for children with additional needs, and employs 15 full-time staff as well as 20 part-time staff.
Thanks to this UK Shared Prosperity grant funding, £25,000 is set to be spent on solar panels to reduce energy expenses, while a further £10,345 will be spent on air conditioning for the play centre and cafe.
Alison Harris, of Colliers Adventure Farm, spoke about what this funding means for the farm: “The grants have made a tremendous impact on our business.
“As a relatively new venture, we have facilitated the installation of solar panels and air conditioning, leading to significant cost reductions and contributing towards our goal of decreasing our carbon footprint. We are extremely grateful.”
Colliers Adventure Farm’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement has already been recognised, having been awarded the Caerphilly Business Club Rural and Tourism Award in 2023 and the Environmental and Sustainability Award 2024 at the most recent Caerphilly Business Club Awards.
Sally Harvey, the council’s senior investment officer, visited the farm and said: “We are extremely happy to support Colliers Adventure Farm in becoming greener and helping to reduce their carbon footprint through the installation of solar panels.
“The addition of air conditioning will create a cleaner and more comfortable environment for staff and visitors. They have quickly become a popular destination for families and schools from the borough and beyond, and we look forward to following their journey.”
