Part of a major Cambridge road will be closed in both directions for more than a month from Monday (13 January) as part of upgrades to the electricity network.
Coldhams Lane between the junctions of Nuttings Road and King’s Meadow/Pinks Close will be closed to all motor vehicles from 13 January to 23 February.
The north junction of Queens Meadow and Coldhams Lane will also be closed over the same period with access from the south entrance only.
There will also be four-way traffic lights at the junction of Brooks Road and Brooksfield between 20 January and 3 March.
The closures are in place for work to be completed by UK Power Networks as part of work to upgrade the network between Fulbourn and Sawston.
The work, which will be completed by UK Power Networks’ contractor Keir, will take place between 7am and 8pm, Monday to Friday.
The electricity company says there may be a need for some weekend working and if required, this will take place between 8am to 8pm on Saturdays and between 9am and 5pm on Sundays.
In a letter to customers, UK Power Networks said: “There will be some noise from the digging activities, and you will see members of our teams working behind safety barriers. The work involves excavating joint bays and pulling a new electricity cable through the previously laid pipework, before connecting to the current electricity network. Our work will have no impact on your electricity supply. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will make every effort to minimise the impact on your neighbourhood.”
A diversion will be in place at all times during the closure period – and access will be maintained for residents.
The diversion will follow Barnwell Road, Newmarket Road, Airport Way, Cherry Hinton Road, Teversham Drift and High Street.
