Clarity House beauty salon open new premises in Dunfermline

Clarity House, owned by Derek Walker, will open the doors of its new premises in the city’s Canmore Street today (Friday), after 12 years in business on New Row.

It will take over the building formerly known as Ling House, which has had a number of uses down the years.

The move is expected to bring around 10 to 15 new jobs to the area, including therapists and practitioners.

Derek, who also runs The Wee Tea Company, said: “We never really advertise because we’re so busy, but what’s happened is that word of mouth has spread and now people can’t get in.

“We can’t expand here (at New Row) because we’ve got limited space, and we found an incredible building just round the corner. It not only gives us twice as many rooms, but also the ability to expand our treatments.”

The added space will allow for private yoga classes, meditation classes, pilates and group wellbeing classes.

Discussing the salon’s popularity, Derek said: “All of the staff are ridiculously qualified and extremely experienced. They’ve worked in the best places in the industry, but they come here to be self-employed.

“Our customers always review us and they’re very loyal, which is why we have to expand. There’s more beauty salons in the city than ever, but I think people are looking for an affordable luxury service.”

In 2022 the business was celebrated when it won a Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award.

Derek added: “All of our therapists like to listen and support people through life as it throws us different challenges. All our customers are treated privately which makes it quite special.

“You’re not going to be in a room full of people getting your nails done, you’ll be one on one with a therapist.”
