Christmas tree festival in Woodgreen to help those in need

The annual event, organised by the church family of Hale and Woodgreen, part of Avon Valley Churches, is held at St Boniface Church in Woodgreen, near Fordingbridge.

The trees are decorated by local groups and businesses, with the public voting for the ‘Best Tree’.

The festival aims to help the local community and those further afield.

A visitor said: “Bare, just as many peoples’ cupboards are.”

Below this tree are boxes, slowly being filled with donations of food, sanitary supplies and other necessities for those in need.

Another tree, created by the local Craft Club, is decorated with hats knitted by its members.

These hats will be donated to the homeless, the Sailors’ Society and to Ukraine.

A Nativity scene has also been constructed in the newly refurbished bus shelter.

The use of the bus shelter has been made possible by Woodgreen Parish Council.

A spokesperson for Avon Valley Churches said: “The Nativity story may be an old one, but the sentiment remains.

“Be prepared to make space in your heart for those who face an uncertain future.

“In these difficult times, it’s often challenging to remember that God is with us through the dark days as well as the light ones, however this nativity will be a reminder to so many.”

People are encouraged to visit St Boniface Church and vote for their favourite tree before Monday, January 6.

Visitors are also asked to consider bringing donations for the foodbank tree and to admire the Nativity scene in the nearby bus shelter.
